Goole Market Hall plans approved

May 15, 2024

Plans to turn the Goole’s historic empty indoor market into a food hall and venue for live music and events have been approved.
The £4m plans to transform Goole Market Hall which include food kiosks and indoor and outdoor seating were approved by East Riding councillors yesterday (Tuesday, May 15).
Committee Chair Cllr Richard Meredith said the redevelopment would create a fantastic facility for the enjoyment of all despite some concerns about noise disturbance to nearby residents.
The plans are set to see the hall brought back into use after it closed in 2019 as it fell into a poor state of repair.
Goole Town Council handed the building back to East Riding Council as costs to run the market reached £1,000-a-month.
Plans for the hall’s revamp have since been drawn up as part of the £25m Goole Town Deal levelling up project.
The proposals which councillors approved yesterday were put together following consultations with residents about what they wanted to see the building used for.
The application stated the inside of the hall would be repainted and restored and food and drinks kiosks would be installed along with a stage for live music performances.
The exterior features of the hall which was built in 1896, are also set to be restored and double glazing openable roof lights are set to be installed.
It follows a campaign to save the building and its use for a Christmas market in 2022 and for a jobs fair, roller disco and filming location.
The food kiosks will be run by a third party operator, according to the plans.
Cllr Meredith said there were conditions in place to control noise levels at the venue.
The chair said: “There are some concerns about noise but let’s be honest this is in the heart of Goole, we’re talking about one of the primary towns in the East Riding.
“This will be a fantastic facility which is soon to be enjoyed by all.”
